Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about C-SASI’s Training & Certification Program
Q. How does the online classroom work?
A: Our Core Training Program is made up of 10 modules and each lasts for approximately 38 days. You’ll have a few days off in between each module. Each module is made up of two components: 1) an interactive "online classroom," which uses a Learning Management System (LMS) and is open 24/7 and 2) a live, two-three hour Zoom session at the end of the module after all assignments in the online classroom have been completed.
Because the online classroom is open 24/7, trainees can access it whenever they choose. There are no set times. For example, in one of our groups we have one person from Australia and another from Africa, so they will likely post/participate in the middle of the night (for folks in the USA).
Q. How much time will I need to spend each week in the online classroom?
Because each module is unique, with its own trainer and syllabus, there is no one answer. Typically you’ll be reading at least two books per month. You may also be required to watch some videos, read some articles, or listen to a podcast. You will need to purchase the books but everything else will be provided.
For example, in one of our modules, the trainer requires everyone to engage in discussion forums: answer each question posed then respond to at least two of their classmates posts thereby engaging classmates. In another module, trainees were divided into teams and were required to watch videos of three “virtual clients,” then work together with their teammates to design a treatment plan for each client. Yet another module asked trainees to read three books, choose their favorite, and prepare a book presentation for the class. In all of the modules the trainer is present, engaging, and provides assistance. We anticipate that you’ll spend at least 5 hours per week with the online classroom assignments (approximately 30 hours per module including the Zoom sessions). But as is the case with all educational programs, the more time you invest the more valuable the overall learning experience!
Q. Tell me more about the Live Zoom Sessions
Our Zoom sessions are live sessions with trainees lead by the trainer/s of that module. Zoom sessions are scheduled in advance taking into account everyone’s schedule and time zone. For example, for one of our sessions, the Zoom were typically on Monday afternoons from 3-6 pm or 4-7 Eastern Time (USA) on the Monday after the “online classroom” wrapped up (on Friday).
Q. What is expected at the beginning of each module?
At the beginning of the very first module, you’ll be given your login information and asked to sign in, become oriented with all of the buttons and toggles for the classroom, set up an online profile, and introduce yourself. Your profile will be used for all of the modules. The buttons and toggles are generally the same for all of the modules. So once you have your profile, have introduced yourself and met all of the other trainees, and have learned how to navigate the online classroom, you’ll be all set for the rest of the training.
At the beginning of all modules you’ll pick up your assigned materials (books, podcasts, videos, articles, etc) for that module. *Though we do send out the required books ahead of time so that you may purchase them or access them through your local library. The trainer will also have posted an introduction and learning objectives for that module along with at least the first assignment (some trainers post a couple of the assignments at the beginning, others post assignments weekly, still others post all of the assignments at once).
You can check out the discussion forums to review questions posed and the video section to review any videos or other information from the instructor. Then, for example in Module 1, you'll join your classmates in deciding who will be doing what book presentations or, for another example, in Module 4 you’ll get your “virtual clients” for whom you will be designing a treatment plan.
Q. What can I expect from the supervision portion of the training?
After all 10 of the modules have been completed, trainees can opt to begin the supervised mentorship portion. The Supervised Mentorship includes: 10 hours supervision, individual or group + 100 case hours with clients, required. *You may begin logging the 100 case hours with clients as soon as our training begins. Meeting times for each month and the length of supervisory sessions depend upon whether you choose group or individual mentoring and also on the mentor’s schedule. Mentors will take into account your time zone and schedule as well.
